Migrating a loyalty program means moving a liability: your customers were promised those points. TruePoints imports the balances that are actually spendable, leaves the ones that aren't, and then bills a flat price regardless of how many orders you do.

The structural difference. Loyalty apps are usually priced on the one thing you're trying to increase — orders. TruePoints is flat: no order limits, no per-member pricing, no overage fees. A busy month costs the same as a quiet one.
Approved points move. Pending points don't.
This is the detail that matters most in a LoyaltyLion migration, and the reason a naïve CSV import goes wrong.
A LoyaltyLion export distinguishes approved points — the balance a customer
can spend today — from pending points, which are still attached to orders that
could be refunded or cancelled. TruePoints recognises the export by its
points_approved column and imports that balance. Columns reading as pending,
lifetime, earned or redeemed totals are rejected by name, with an explanation.
Import the wrong column and every customer in your store is instantly owed more than they really have — a liability you then can't take back without an argument. TruePoints refuses the file rather than let that happen.
You see the mapping first
Before a single point is written, the import preview tells you exactly which column it read as the balance and how many customers it matched. Rows that don't match a real Shopify customer are reported, not approximated onto the nearest email.
What moves, and what doesn't
- Moves: each customer's approved, spendable balance, attached to their existing Shopify customer record by email.
- Doesn't move: reward and tier definitions, referral history, and past transaction logs.
Customers keep the Shopify account they already have — nobody is asked to re-register.
How earning and redeeming work
Set a rate, say 5 points per $1. Points are awarded on the order subtotal, after discounts and before shipping and tax. Refunds reverse them proportionally, and a balance stops at zero instead of going negative if the points were already spent.
Redemption mints a real single-use Shopify discount code scoped to that customer, so it can't be shared or reused. It works on every Shopify plan — no checkout extension, no Plus requirement.

Which points column gets imported?
The approved balance — what a customer can actually spend. You see the mapping before anything is written.
What happens to pending points?
They're deliberately left behind. They aren't spendable yet, and importing them would credit customers for orders that might still be refunded.
Do customers need new accounts?
No. Balances attach to your existing Shopify customer records by email.
Can I get my data back out?
