Moving your balances
Export your customers from Smile as CSV and paste the file into TruePoints. It recognises a
Smile export by its customer_email column, and before a single point is written it
tells you exactly which column it read as the balance. You approve that mapping, not a black box.
It refuses to over-credit your customers
This is the failure that quietly ruins a migration. Loyalty exports often carry several point columns — a current balance next to lifetime, earned, pending or redeemed totals. Import the wrong one and every customer in your store is suddenly owed far more than they actually have.
TruePoints won't do it. Any column reading as a lifetime or cumulative total is rejected by name, with an explanation, and the import stops until you supply a real current-balance export.
It never guesses at identity
Rows that don't match a real Shopify customer are reported back to you, not approximated onto the nearest match. You get a list of what didn't import and why.
What moves, and what doesn't
- Moves: each customer's current points balance, matched to their Shopify customer record by email.
- Doesn't move: reward definitions, tier structures, referral history and past transaction logs. Rewards are quick to recreate — amount off, percent off, or free shipping, each with a points cost and an optional minimum order.
Point balances are the part your customers can see and will complain about. That's the part TruePoints protects.
How earning and redeeming work
You set a rate — say 5 points per $1. Every paid order awards points on the order subtotal, after discounts and before shipping and tax. Refunds claw points back automatically and in proportion; if the customer already spent them, the balance stops at zero rather than going negative.
Redeeming mints a genuine Shopify discount code — single-use and scoped to that customer, so it can't be shared or reused — and applies it at checkout. That works on every Shopify plan, with no checkout extension and no upgrade.

Balance import is a Core feature, so a migration starts on Core — the 14-day trial covers it. Export is free on every plan, including Free, because "you can always leave" is only true when leaving is free.
Questions
Will my customers lose their points?
No. Balances import from your Smile CSV export, and you see the column mapping before anything is applied.
What if my export only has lifetime points?
TruePoints refuses the file and tells you which column it rejected. Importing a lifetime total would over-credit every customer you have.
Do I have to rebuild my rewards?
Yes — balances migrate, reward definitions don't. Recreating a typical set takes a few minutes.
Does redeeming need Shopify Plus?
No. It issues a real single-use discount code scoped to that customer, which works on any Shopify plan.
